The other day, a man came into the store with his little daughter. Her teddy was wearing a mask. It caused a really strange flashback, although not really because I was not a child during a pandemic, but it brought back a vivid memories of being a kid with my one very particular toy that came with me everywhere. The one I would always share my french fries with. My mom even made him a vest for Halloween once. . . I saw that little girl's teddy bear and I was sucked into an alternate reality where I'm still a kid, but now I'm trying to navigate a world in the context of Covid. And I'm terrified, but I don't have the language for it and I don't have control, so I project onto some I do understand and obsess over trying to protect my stuffed rabbit from the virus. I panic when I'm we're in public and his mask breaks. I'm probably also holding him at arm's length so we can social distance. And every time an adult tries to convince me that stuffed Animals don't need masks cuz they can't get sick, it shrinks my sphere of safety, because it let's me know that they don't care. . . Be nice to the kids. They are scared in ways they can't tell you. Somehow, that inspired me to remember those really gaudy rings we use to get in the coin machines for 25¢, the ones with different shaped, different colored plastic gems framed by aluminum rheinstones. I use to feel like million bucks with those. Respect your inner child, the one draped in plastic gems and still believes she can do anything.

What a horrible birthday surprise... . . My cousin tested positive for Covid. . . I know calling on us, the every day people, to be responsible for the outcome of this pandemic is bullshit, but I think it's pretty obvious that those with the power to make realistic changes aren't interested in saving our lives. The best we have is each other. . . It sux not seeing family. It sux not having friends. It sux not having gifts at Christmas, especially for the kids. It sux not being able to do anything other than work and binge watch TV. But if you're not dead, you're doing okay and you can survive it. Health care workers haven't seen anyone except dying patients all year, and will most likely not even have Christmas day off let alone be safe enough to see family. . . Be dafe everyone.
